Lerags House is approved for civil weddings, which means, no more registrars office for those not wanting a religious ceremony. This is a relatively new law in Scotland allowing the registrar to come to us, making Lerags House the perfect venue for small "house party" weddings where the most important issue of a special time is that you are sharing the occasion with those that are closest to you.
The ceremony venue can be either on the stone courtyard by the 100 year old magnolia tree or if the heavens open, in the serene atmosphere of our sitting room. The decision can usually wait until the 11th hour as we are in contact with the registrar and keep her informed of weather variants in our wee glen.
There is a lot to organise and details to take care of, made all the more easy by Bella and Charlies' local knowledge and use of the best providers in the area. We understand that there is a great deal of trust placed in us to create the perfect day and from our experience we have shown that bride and groom can just relax. We have a great selection of professionals waiting to help make your day special, from photographer to florist. Bella can steer you in the right direction to get just what you want with minimal fuss. If you have exclusive use of the house, we offer a five course set menu wedding breakfast agreed by you and the dining room is set with white linen and the house full of fresh blooms and candles.
What is involved with a civil ceremony at Lerags House?
Firstly, we need to book the registrar, they're busy people and need to be booked as soon as a date is agreed. Times are usually on the hour for travel purposes. Then there are forms to fill in, these can be sent to you by post from the Oban registrar or you download them from www.gro-scotland.gov.uk Much more information in regards to the technicalities can also be obtained from this sight. Forms will need to be returned 8 weeks prior to the wedding date. If either couple has been divorced there are extra forms and a longer lead time, this will need to be discussed with the Registrar personally.
